The valley is located towards the southeast of the island and sits east of the capital of <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/pv-magazine.com\/region\/saint-kitts-nevis\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">St. Kitts and Nevis<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, Basseterre.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The tender opens with a request for proposals (RFP) stage, with SKELEC requesting that individuals and entities interested in receiving the RFP document register through their <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.skelec.kn\/renewable-energy\/basseterre-valley-50mw-solar-pv-and-energy-storage-project\/bidders\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">online portal<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. Locally-based contractors and investors are also invited to register. A deadline for submitting registrations has not been announced publicly.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">SKELEC is the sole public utility responsible for electricity generation, transmission and distribution on the island of St. Kitts. It is owned by the government of St. Kitts and Nevis. The utility\u2019s general manager, Clement Williams, commented that the Basseterre Valley project<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0will strengthen the country\u2019s energy security and reduce reliance on imported fuels.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">According to figures published by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), St Kitts and Nevis had 5 MW of cumulative solar capacity by the end of last year, the same figure reported the year prior.<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"disclaimer\">\n<p>This content is protected by copyright and may not be reused.
